Marlins bloop hits in the third beat the Mets 9-6

April 30th, 2007 — article by

Scoring 5 runs in the third inning proved too much for the Mets. Nothing hit strong, barely over the infield started the Marlins off to a good start. Olsen gave up 4 runs, and Messenger shut the Mets down in the 7th, Pinto came in the eigth and Owens closed in the ninth to beat the Mets in thier first opener at Shea stadium. If you want the real wrap go to the Marlins board or MLB board to get the skinny. This is a Ross board. No Cody did not play tonite. Thus my short post………….Onward to game two. Nice post Robin on the ongoing debate as to the stigma of only hitting left handed pitchers. Cough cough.

Cody Ross Hitting Right-Handers

April 30th, 2007 — article by

Notes: Ross out to disprove label

There’s an article on MLB about Cody and hitting right-handed pitching.  It’s a good article about Cody that points out how the sports media can dish out a stigma on a player that is tough to shake.

Phillies take the series 2-1

April 29th, 2007 — article by

Jamie Moyer dominated the game with his pitching.Throwing a no no into the seventh until Cabrerra broke it up with a hit. Marlins have 4 hits for the whole game. No Cody wasn’t one of them. Marlins lose 6-1. On to the Mets………..

Phillies Rally to beat the Marlins 6-5 in the ninth

April 27th, 2007 — article by

It was a long edgy game that ended with a loss for the Marlins in the bottom of the ninth. Cabrerra doubled in the top of the ninth and Cody doubled down the third base line to score Reed who was pinch running for Cabrerra to tie the game at 5-5. Marlins were leading the Phillies 4-3 in the bottom of the eighth when Phillies had two solo homeruns from Rollins and Utley to take the lead 5-4. The Marlins left the basses loaded three different innings which was the difference. Can’t do that fellas. Cody was 1-4 with an RBI double and a walk. Tuff loss. Got to get em tomarro. Dontrell has the start for the Marlins for game two of the series.

Marlins pull out a win in the bottom of the ninth down 3-0 against Hudson and the Braves

April 25th, 2007 — article by

The Marlins had 3 hits until the bottom of the ninth inning to come back and win the game. Braves led the Marlins 3-0 going into the bottom of the ninth . Cabrerra starts off with a single up the middle, Ross hits a single up the middle, Boone singles to load the basses. Out comes starting pitcher Hudson who had pitched a great game striking out 12 batters. Olivo comes to bat against the Braves closer Wickman who is 25-26 wins as a closer. Olivo hits a double to score Miggy and Cody. Uggla up and Wickman throws a wild pitch that is a passed ball and Olivo comes in to score and win the game. This all happened in about 5 minutes. Wow. Marlins win the game 4-3 and take the series 2-1.

I guess Fredi read my rant last night and decided to start Cody in right field. Yea right. The important thing is Ross got a hit against a rightie. Way to go Ross. After tonight, Cody is hitting .326. Before tonight Cody was only being used in a platoon situation with Amezega hitting against righties, and Cody hitting lefties. But the start tonight in right field for Ross says Fredi is taking notice. Way to go Marlins with a rare comeback win. Cudos to Olsen who gave up 3 homeruns in the first two innings, but got on the mark and struck out 10. Owens came in threw a hitless inning in the ninth. On to the Phillies 9-11 on Thursday in Philly. Marlins are now 10-11 in third place behind the Braves 13-7 and the Mets 13-8.
