Cody Watches 754

July 30th, 2007 — article by

From the Palm Beach Post:

Outfielder Cody Ross had the best view of Bonds’ 754th home run. Ross was in center when the ball sailed over his head in the first inning Friday.

“It was like slow motion when he hit it,” Ross said. “I watched him instead of watching the ball. I watched his reaction – he knew it was a homer. So I just gave it a courtesy look.

“Afterward I was like, ‘Did that just really happen?’ For it to actually go over my head was surreal.”

Madness

Well I normally wouldn’t post something early in a game as it’s only the 3rd inning against the Giants as I write this, but Cody is smashing up Barry Zito.  A base hit and then a 3rd inning 2-run crush that Bonds, who just hit another homer as well (puts him 1 to tie Hank Aaron’s mark) didn’t even bother moving for.  He just looked up in disgust and watched it sail way up into the stands behind left field.  Schweeet!!

If I remember right, Carlsbad’s Shane Andrews was playing 3rd base in the game that Mark McGwire broke the season homerun record.  Cody now has the possibility of witnessing the all-time homerun record being broken. Asterisked as it may be, it’s still history, and it’s pretty special that two of Carlsbad’s own get to play in these games.

Here’s what happened

The ball was hit to the left fielder Josh Willingham. A fan put his glove over the fence next to Willingams. Josh would not have caught the ball. Cody was running over from center field, saw the play and pointed to the fan that had caught the ball. After the umps called the play a homerun which it was not. Shoulda have been a double, but Willingham missed the ball. Cody tells the guy nice catch……….What a diplomatic outfielder. Gotta love him..

Marlins drop two in a row to the Diamondbacks

Mitre showed his first fault of the year giving up  6 runs with 7 hits to the Diamondbacks. It was a bad game to watch as Arizona kept scoring with the short ball. Arizona wins 9-3. With Hanley still out with a slight dislocated shoulder Amezega played short and Cody started in centerfield. Uggla had two home runs late in the game to score all the runs. The other good news is Ross goes 2-4 with a single and a double. Cody is looking strong at the plate without a strike out since his comeback after a hamstring injury in may. On to tomaroo night with Olson on the mound. Should be interesting to see how the bad boy handles his game. I predict he will scorch the Diamondbacks. He has the attitude to do it and has alot to proove with his antics off the field as of late. With that being said, I hope I didn’t jinx Olson……….And the Marlins…. We need some wins fellas…..

Marlins lose a close one with the Diamondbacks

July 23rd, 2007 — article by
It was a back and forth game for the Marlins against the Diamonbacks. Florida took the early lead 2-0. Diamondbacks came back to tie the Marlins 2-2. Eventually winning the game 4-3. Great pitching from Diamondbacks Doug Davis lasted thru the 7th inning. Cody went 1-4 with an rbi single. He also had an assist throwing out a runner at first with a fly ball. Cody looks very good at the plate. Showing dicipline and not going after bad pitches and hitting the ball hard again to the wrong place. Cody has not had a strike out since his return from the DL. Look for things to fall into place for Cody. He is hitting the ball hard. Only a matter of time, trust me.
