Ross Homers and spoils Brandon Webb’s 10 victory bid

May 21st, 2008 — article by

Cody hits another home run tonight against Brandon Webb, one of the best pitchers in the game, and a right hander. Amezega started at shortstop for the struggling Hanley, so Ross got the start in centerfield. The Marlins went on to win the game against the Diamondbacks 3-1. Cody hit the go ahead homer in the 5th inning spoiling Webb for his 10 in a row win trying to break a record that was set in 1919. Ross also hit the first homerun that Webb has given up this year. Marlins still in first place a game and a half over the Phillies and the Braves. Ross continues to hit but still sits the bench. He has 5 homers for the year with 76 at bats. I don’t know what else to say. Fredi ole buddy you know the drill….Cudos for Nolasco who pitched a great game. He went 7 innings and gave up 1 run. The Marlins have already won the series against the best team in th NL. I hate to mention a sweep.

Why did the Tigers let this guy go? Marlins always seem to be the carp of the baseball world picking up players that couldn’t make it with another team. It has burned them more than once. Why would the Marlins not give Cody a reasonable chance to make it in centerfield? Fredi says he will play Ross as long as he is hitting. One game Ross goes 0-4 along with alot of other Marlins players that day and he is out of the starting line up. When the other Marlins players go 0-20 or 2-22 they get to keep on playing. Amezega is one of them. Ross you have a new role, your gonna have to come off the bench and kick ass all the time…..Good luck Brother.

I knew those caps got Fredi’s attention!

Fredi finally got a reality check from somebody and started Ross tonight in centerfield. The Marlins played a stinky game all night, got some bad calls and made some stupid plays. The Marlins were losing 6-0 against the Reds in the top of the 9th. Cantu singles, Uggla singles, Gonzo doubles Cantu scores. Helms is hit by a pitch. Bases loaded Treynor hits a single and scores Cantu and Uggla making it 6-3 with no outs. Mike Jacobs strikes out as a pinch hitter. That brings Ross to the plate with runners on first and third. The Reds ace closer Codero is pitching, Ross takes the count 2-2 and fouls off three balls. Next pitch………………..Outa here!!!!!!!!!! Cody hits a home run to tie the game. So now Rich and Tommy (the Florida announcers) jump on the Cody Ross bandwagon. Bottom of the 10th, Pinto strikes two out in a row and then walks two in a row and the Shortstop Paul Janish (his first game in the Majors) hits a walk off single to win the game 7-6.
Looks like Cody will get some more playing time………….Way to slam it Ross! On a smaller note, Ross blew Cordero’s record for saves. His first loss. Tis funny how Cody seems to get into the record books.

Fredi, ROSS NEEDS TO PLAY

May 13th, 2008 — article by

Maybe I can catch Fredi’s eye with that bold text in the title. Ya think? I think not. Somebody is gonna have to hit him in the head with a BAT. Fredi, will you look beyond the stats. Will you atleast look to where Ross has hit the ball with his .180 average? Not many strike outs. Long outs to the outfield. Hard hit balls to the infield. Now he is in the groove against any handed pitchers. You still start Amezega who really $ucks. He can’t hit the ball out of the infield. I am so sick of him trying to bunt the ball and beat it out. You know what the odds are of that play gettting a hit? Especially when the whole league knows what you are going to do? Get a clue Fredi. PLAY ROSS! Let him live or die at this point in time. Amezega can play the infield, and thats where he should be. Ross plays the outfield and you have no other choices other than Carrol who still can’t score a hit in the show.

Cody Ross: in the MLB History Books

found this on the Florida marlins site:

Outfielder first player since 2002 to score twice on wild pitches

CINCINNATI — Falling into the “Did You Know?” category is something that took place in an otherwise routine blowout on Saturday at Nationals Park.

Lost in the Marlins’ 11-0 win over the Nationals that night was the fact that Cody Ross scored twice on wild pitches. On the surface it doesn’t seem like much, but it actually is a pretty rare occurrence.

The last time the same player scored twice in the same game on wild pitches was over six years ago.

On April 25, 2002, Felipe Lopez, then with the Blue Jays, scored twice on wild pitches.

Ross scored his runs in the third and fourth innings. Both times he walked. In the third, he raced home on Michael O’Connor’s wild pitch. An inning later, Matt Chico’s pitch that got away from Jesus Flores had Ross charging home.

“When I went over the game in my head, I said, ‘I scored two runs on wild pitches,’” Ross said. “That doesn’t happen a lot.

“I honestly thought it happened more than six years ago. I thought it would happen a couple of times a year, maybe.

“I thought I saw Hanley [Ramirez] do it, but obviously I hadn’t.”
