Number 12 hits #12

June 21st, 2008 — article by

I am tired of hitting the ball to the defense, tomorrow night I’m going to hit a home run off a left hander. Indeed he did. Ross nailed one to right center to tie the game 3-3 against the Oakland A’s in the top of the eighth inning. Marlins go on to win the game with Uggla hitting a three run double in the ninth 6-4. Cody goes 2-4 tonight with a single and a home run. Again, Cody just hitting to the wrong place in the last week or so. Last night he hit one to the wall that was caught and also about decapitated the pitcher if not for his glove getting in the way.

Marlins are now one game back of the Phillies for the lead in the NLE. Marlins need a closer and they need Josh Johnson back. Kevin Gregg gave everyone heart attacks tonight almost blowing a save in the bottom of the ninth inning. Go to the Marlins board to get that story. Jorge Cantu made an outstanding catch at first base to save the game………I jump around a bit but it gets down on print sooner or later. Way to go Ross to get back!!!

Cody Ross Gets Tossed for Arguing Balls and Strikes

Ross makin some Noise

June 10th, 2008 — article by

Well Ross finally got his position after fighting all the way.  It didn’t come easy for the slugger but after hitting 11 home runs, 6 doubles and stealing 4 basses (second only to Hanley) Fredi could not ignore Ross any longer. In the three seasons Cody has played for the Marlins he has over 500 at bats. He is hitting .289 and has hit 34 homeruns. That is one full season of baseball for most starters. Some stats that you might not know about. Ross is the only player on the team with 0 errors. He is tied with Hermida with most assists with 3. Hermida has played alot more games. Another record that I could not find was the fact that Ross got thrown out of the game against the Reds. I cannot recall any Marlins players to get thrown out of a game. It was over a pitch that was high and inside. Ump called a strike and Cody went ballistic. Your outa here. Oops. Thats how hard Cody is playing baseball. If it makes you feel any better Cody, it was a ball.

On a personal note, we went to the blues festival in Ruidoso this last weekend. We’re sippin beer enjoying the blues and Rena decides to go have a smoke in the truck and check on the game. ITs now the 6th inning and the game is tied 4-4. We decide that the main act ain’t that good so we go back to the truck to listen to the game on XM. We drive back to the room and its the 7th inning. We’re walkin back to the room and we know we can buy the game on MLB in the room. I say, I’m not paying 6.95 to watch two innings. Rena says were on vacation. We buy the game just in time to see Ross hit an rbi single to take the lead. The rest is history with Ross hitting a two run walk off homerun with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Best 7 bucks we ever spent. As Kenzie gave us the sign that says WE INTERUPT THIS FAMILY TO BRING YOU THE BASEBALL SEASON. Oh so true. Go Ross, go Marlins after beating the Phillies in the first game of the series 5-4. Ross had a pinch hit double, Jones went 0-4 starting in centerfield. Marlins are 3 games back behind the Phillies.

Other Cody Ross News Snippets from Around the Internet

The press is buzzing with Cody’s latest achievements:

  • All Cody Ross ever hits is home runs (Check out this article. Great!)
  • “One was Cody Ross‘ 10th May homer. This is getting ridiculous. 9 of Ross’ last 11 hits are long balls.” - Alex Carver
  • “9 Of Florida Marlins outfielder Cody Ross’ 12 hits in May entering this weekend’s series against the Philadelphia Phillies, those that were home runs. Though he was batting just .202 for the season, Ross still was slugging .521 because he also had three doubles to go along with seven singles. Said Ross: “Home runs are nice, but I’d like for my average to better.” Last season, in 66 games for the Marlins, the 27-year-old Ross batted .335 with a 1.064, easily the best numbers of his career.” - Tony Massarotti
  • “Center fielder Cody Ross has certainly helped contribute to that total. Ross hit a two-run homer on Saturday, giving him 10 for the month - on only 14 hits. Nine of his last 10 hits had been homers before a ninth-inning single. “It felt kind of strange to hit a single,” Ross said.:” - thespread.com
  • “Cody Ross was running off the field at the end of the seventh inning Wednesday when Mets third baseman David Wright turned and said: “Don’t be afraid to hit a single.” But why hit a single when home runs are coming just as easily? Eight of Ross’ past nine hits were home runs entering Friday, joining a group of players that includes Manny Ramirez, Darryl Strawberry, Gary Sheffield, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire and Adam Dunn with such a streak. The fact that Ross is hitting home runs is not unusual. Last season he had 12 in 173 at-bats, the third-highest home run percentage behind Barry Bonds and Adam Dunn. Ross didn’t start Friday, but will start today and Sunday against left-handers. Ross, though, is dispelling the perception that he can only hit left-handers. He has five homers this season off right-handers and is hitting .190 against lefties and .212 vs. right-handers.” - Tom D’Angelo
  • “Ross responded that his season was starting anew on May 1. Call it a coincidence, but the Marlins outfielder nicknamed “Toy Cannon” has nine home runs and 16 RBIs in May entering Friday’s series opener against the Phillies.” - Joe Frisaro
