Frustration is the word

August 31st, 2008 — article by

It all came to head when Cody got hit by a pitch today against Pilfrey for the second time in a month. It just exploded with all the frustrations Ross and the Marlins have had in the second half of the season. Too many close games that the Marlins have lost from blown saves and bad luck.  After the loss today against the Mets put the Marlins 7 games back behind the Mets and the Phillies. Olsen gave up three home runs in the first two innings of the game and the Mets never looked back. Scott Olsen has had bad luck all year with low run support and it was no different today. Benches cleared after Cody got hit by a pitch early in the game. Nobody got thrown out of the game which was fortunate. IT was not a duck pitch. the Mojo just was not in the cards for the Marlins. Many blame Fredi, Pinto, Gregg and who ever else failed to produce in the last couple of months. The bats definetly were down from the first half of the season. I think it goes back to hitting too many home runs in the first half of the season. The Marlins lived on the long ball and as pitchers got better the Fish were still strokin for the long ball which failed them. The history of baseball indicates that the homerun is not the answere to a playoff team. All of the short commings of the Marlins came to light in the second half. Errors, leaving to many runners on base, the non BASE hit, bullpen not performing. If not for the Marlins strong starting rotation this senario would be worse. The best thing about this whole season is next season. I know this sounds so “wait till next year bubba”! But that is basiclly the sentiment. Next year I guess magiclly Loria will have double the money for a team. He has saved a bundle in the last three years with the lowest payroll in baseball. They have commited to Hanley for a big contract and no one else at this point in the season. They will have to pay up to their players that have played for the last three years at minimum pay. Well, thats all of em. When Cody came to the Marlins there were nothing but rookies including Ross which was another record in baseball. You got to give it to Loria for comming up with a team that could contend with teams like the Mets, Phillies, Cubs, D-Backs, Rockies, and Braves with payrolls that double tripple and quadruple the Marlins. Well not Loria, I give all that credit to Beinfast and his staff. Or they just got real lucky. I doubt that. This is a ramble post and my english teacher would give me an F for putting this all into one paragraph. LOL. Bottom line, its now all up to the other teams to fail for the Marlins to be contenders. Oh and the Marlins have to win more that one at a time. ……………….

Marlins UH Lose in the ninth

August 26th, 2008 — article by

With a three run lead in the ninth. Kevin Gregg gives up 4 runs to lose against the Braves in the ninth inning. I had to reread that to make sure I got it right. I still can’t believe it. Shock:::::: We lost the darn game at one time leading 8-4. I have almost given up on the Marlins doing anything right.  Fredi actually managed a good game but the players gave it up. Hanley had a text book double play and blew it when he couldn’t find the ball out of his beautifull teal and brown glove in the ninth inning. Gregg could do nothing but throw fast balls with any control and it got him in the end. The cocky Escobar hit the walk off base hit to win the game. That alone is devestating. This is a guy that flips his bat at the plate and gives an attitude that makes you want to punch him. Well he won the game. The sad thing about this game was Gregg came in the game bottom of the 8th and struck out Chipper with the basses loaded. Looked like Gregg was on the money. WRong. Marlins lose 9-8. or something like that

Good news flash: Cody goes 3-5 with a home run (his 19th of the year). A single and a double to have a 4 rbi night. There was also talk of Cody getting a gold glove vote with no errors and like 5 or 6 assists.  Pretty good for a player that the Marlins did not want to start in centerfield. The Marlins did everyting in their power to find a centerfielder other that Cody which failed. Ross came thru and I predict that Ross will have another end of the season push to make his arbitration year a  winner. I think the Marlins will try and keep Cody because of his ability to play all three outfield positions and his ability to hit. He has out played Hermida and  Willingham. We shall see.

The way the Marlins are playing I don’t see them getting into the post season. Luck could change though

Ross back on top with family in town againts the Dbacks

August 22nd, 2008 — article by

It looks like Cody is back in the swing. Not that he was ever out of the swing but he put it in third gear tonight against the Diamondbacks. Started the game off with a single, steals second base, then hits a double with an rbi (should have been 2 rbi’s) . Cody then throws out a runner going home. Then in the 8th inning Ross hits one out making it 18 for the season and the Marlins take the lead 5-4. All of this is happening with Mom and Dad in the stands and a bunch of friends from Carlsbad. Last time Mom and Dad were at the park was in Denver when Cody went nuts with his bat. Looks like you guys are going to have to quit your jobs and follow the Marlins. that would be sweet eh. I am trying to buy time as I watch Gregg come in the 9th inning for the save. IF you missed the last game he blew it badly. One out. Nice play by Helms. Out two, fly out to Hermida. Out three amezega to first. Marlins win 5-4 thanks to Cody Ross.

Cody Ross Now Hitting Out of the 2-Spot

August 16th, 2008 — article by

Cody Ross has now been moved up the batting order to 2nd in the lineup.  Apparently Fredi is looking for more consistency out of this spot, and the other guys have failed to deliver up to his expectations.  That’ll be a good change for him and he’ll see more at bats per game as well as Ribby opportunities.

He’s started off well as he knocks in Hanley Ramirez for the lead in tonight’s game.  Make sure to check out the mother and son in the stands cheering for him, the kid especially.  Too funny.

Marlins keep face

August 16th, 2008 — article by

Cody got moved up in the line up batting second. That has been a hot topic all year long with the Marlins having no real second hitter in the lineup. Ross got the call tonight and it worked. The Cubs decided to walk Hanley to get to Ross. Wrong move. Ross hits a double to the opposite field to score a run and win the game 2-1. I think it was a great move for Fredi. Hermida was not working batting second. Ross will hit in a clutch and thats what happened.
