Cody the bean bag

August 12th, 2008 — article by

I have a thought…..God forbid. Well here goes. Cody has been hit twice in the past week. Runners on base and Ross at bat. Why walk him, lets just hit him and save pitches and put him on base and pitch to Baker. Think about that for a minute……..OK. They do not want to pitch to Ross, that is evident. How many blows can Cody take to the body before he blows or breaks? Anyway Ross is comming back with a hitting streak that nobody is talkin about. He is hitting over .500 in the last week or so. A double and a single tonite to help beat the Cardinals 4-3. Volsdat pitched an excellent game after the first inning giving up three runs. The bullpen came in and shut out the Cards. Marlins still in the thick of it.

Marlins give away the first game to the Cards

It was one of the worst games I have ever seen Fredi manage. It all started with the line up. Why would you start Willingham who is struggling at the plate in place of Gonzo who finished the last two games going 5-9 with a home run and 3 rbi’s? Lets also give Cantu a day off and play Helms. Cantu is in a slump but you don’t sit your first string players agains the Cardinals in a playoff race. Helms is not hot and should not have started at third base. I doubt that Fredi sent Uggla off stealing to get thrown out twice at second base. Seems like Jacobs, Uggla, Hermida, Ross and Helms were all going for the long ball when they should have been short swinging for the singles. Remeriz got left on third base twice and did not score with no outs.

On a good note, Sanchez threw a great game. YES, Cody got his 17th home run of the year with that swing…..To bad nobody was on base at the time. Marlins are now 3 games back. Gotta play some baseball fellas.

Cody makes a fine sprint and catch at Shea Stadium, saving at least a double.

Marlins salvage a win against the Mets

August 10th, 2008 — article by

Nice to see the Marlins really can hit. Uggla had three rbi’s, Jacobs hits his 25th homerun, Gonzo hits a homerun and goes 3 for 4, Hermida goes 2-2, Ross gets a single and scores. Cody adds to his acting career when he was blatantly hit square in the back at the plate. Ross goes down and does not move. Thinking that the ball might have hit him in the backbone and paralized him, (this is all going thru my head while he lays there not moving) we are all breathless watching the screen as Cody lays there for what seemed like minutes. He suddenly pops up and runs to first. Shit Cody. After watching the replay Cody is laying on his back still chewing his gum…hmmmmmm. Ross also made a great catch in left field at the wall. Marlins win the game 8-2. Josh Johnson threw another great game. Marlins are now two games back from the Phillies and 1/2 game back behind the Mets. Marlins go back home to face the Cardinals and the Cubs.

Fredi can sometimes be a puzzle

Ross got a day off today for whatever reason. Ross has 4 hits and two walks in his last three games which included one of only two hits against the Mets last night. Sit him he needs a day off. Yea right! Willingham who has the bad back started and is like 1-20 in his at bats. Amezega started in centerfield tonight and went 0-4. He hit into a double play when the Marlins had scored two runs in the inning and had a comeback goin on. Amezega killed that. Fredi should have atleast pinch hit Ross for Amezega in the 8th inning. At that point in the game Amezega was 0-3. Was he saving Ross? For what? Fredi had the meat of the line up coming to bat in the top of the 9th inning. He still went with Amezega who was what? TEST. 0-3 for the night.

I hate to second guess a manager but Fredi is NOT manager of the year which are the rumors. Fredi has made bad decisions with his bullpen. Why on earth he is keeping 13 pitchers and only 4 bench players? With the bullpen and starting pitching doing so well he needs to get rid of a pitcher. I understand the concerns with Sanchez and JJ comming off surgery but he can always make that move if needed. He does not have that option in the middle of the game.
