Ross slotted to start in right field for the Marlins

January 31st, 2009 — article by

are-those-nike-shoesAbout time Cody enters spring training camp and does not  have to worry about fighting for a position in the Major leagues. Only about 261 playeres have than luxary.  THAT has got to be a great feeling and a sense of accomplishment that not many players get to feel. Along with signing his first MLB contract, gold glove has been tagged to Ross’ name. Our friend Joe Frisaro wrote a nice article about Cody’s defensive ability. read nowcody-020

10 years to get here and 10 more to go

January 25th, 2009 — article by

It really doesn’t seem like its been 10 years for Cody in the Majors. But he signed in 1999. So I guess so. Here is a phone interview given by Cody to Carlsbad sports writer Jeff Keller the other day that appeared in the Carlsbad paper. Enjoy. Read interview

Payday for Cody Ross

January 20th, 2009 — article by

After what seemed like forever, Cody has signed a one year deal with the Marlins for 2.225000.00 with incentives that reach 2.3 million. After coming down to the wire, a deal was made. Marlins offered an opening figure , Milchen (Cody’s agent) countered, Marlins countered, Cody said no, Marlins offered, Cody said no, Marlins offered, Cody said no. Ross stood his ground before the deal was finally made. Cody also has incentives of 550 at bats to reach 2.3 mill. I think Pops might get a new pair of shoes. Congrats go out to Cody Ross and Family. What a road it has been for the Ross family. I’m sure he will tell you it was well worth the wait. He is very happy with the contract. The Ross family leaves for Miami in two weeks. Spring training is just around the corner. Baby is on the way. Give me some baseball please.

There was a tie in the contest. The girls seem to have that knack. Sara and Carrie tied at 2.3 mill. One who knows allot about baseball and one that knows nothing about baseball. Go figure. Uh……. I only have one ball left. I can saw this thing in half. Maybe we can get Cody to sign another ball. Go Cody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cantu, Hermida sign

January 19th, 2009 — article by

Third baseman Jorge Cantu and outfielder Jeremy Hermida signed today and avoided arbitration. Cantu signed for 3.5 million and Hermida for 2.25 million. Both got 100,000.00 incentives in the deal. That leaves Ross, Nolasco, Amezega, and Uggla until noon tomorrow before they go to arbitration. With that being said, I would say Ross is worth more than Hermida. Hermida lost his job when Maybin took over in center last year. Cody took over right field. It also looks like Hermida will move to left field and take over Willinghams spot, Cody will move to right field which takes the stronger arm and no doubt has a better jump on the ball. Ross also has fewer errors than Jeremy. Cody’s batting average is 11 points higher than Hermida and has more home runs with the same amount of bats 22 to 17. I know this is a short look at stats, but numbers are numbers. I wonder if there is any irony that Obama gets sworn in as president tomorrow salary negotiations end tomorrow. Weird. All I’m getting at is my guess is looking pretty good on Cody’s salary so I am removing it from the contest. I guessed 2.3 mill, I hope he gets more. Cody is worth 3 mill to any other club. I thank everyone for participating. You all will be getting a gift in the mail shortly. The only thing we might have to look forward to in 2009 is Marlins baseball. Good luck Obama! Lets make the best of it.

Picture from 2008

jenifermarlins After seeing Marley and me I remembered this picture I had. Here are some of the Marlins wives and girlfriends that flagged down Jenifer Aniston after leaving Dolphin stadium. Jenifer and Owen Wilson had just shot some scenes for Marly and Me. Summer, Cody’s wife is far left middle.
