Ross’ clutch single wins the game

April 29th, 2009 — article by

Top of the eighth inning Marlins down 3-2,  runners on second and third, Cody comes up and slams a single up the middle to score two runs. Marlins win the game 4-3 and take the series against the Mets 2-1.  We all got a scare in the bottom of the ninth when Matt Lindstrom came in to close. He walks the first two batters and later hits another to load the basses with two outs. Santos flies out to Amezega to win the game. Wew, This has got to stop!

Marlins still in first place  1 1/2 games over the Phillies who lost tonight against the Nats.

Marlins end the 7 game slide

April 28th, 2009 — article by

Cantu had a two homerun night with 5 rbi’s to help beat the Mets 7-4. Nolasco gave up 4 runs in 5 innings and the bullpen gave up 0 runs to help win the game. The one chick “that is Bonifacio” went 2-5 with a run and a stolen base. Cody went 0-4 but had a great play in right field to save extra basses. Marlins still in first place with a 12-8 record, 1/2 game ahead of the Phillies.

To reply on Robins request for Cody to comment on his pitching debut.  Here is what I remember from his quotes.  “I just wanted to go out there and not make any mistakes or get hurt. Ryan Howard was the first batter and I didn’t want to get hit in the head. I was sore the next day from lifting my leg to pitch”. Fredi had commented that he was scared to death watching a position player pitch. Cody gave up one hit and has an era of 000. It is another Cody Gump moment in Major League Baseball!!!

Mets over Marlins 6-1 in the opener

April 27th, 2009 — article by

Anibal started out with a 40 pitch first inning and gave up six runs with a grandslam homer by back up catcher Omir Santos. It stayed the same till the end. Cody made a Willie Mays catch over the head in centerfield. One of the few highlights of the game tonite. Marlins now on a 7 game losing streak. Still in first place though. Hanley got hit in the hand the first inning. X Rays came back negative so it is day to day with Hanley. Nolasco starts tomorrow night with the Mets.

Ross’ pitching debut

April 26th, 2009 — article by

Although the Marlins (Blackbird) seems to have a broken wing or two (Mabin and Bonifacio) getting swept by the Pirates and the Phillies, Ross has a very productive day going 3-4 with3 singles. Low and behold Cody got his wish to pitch in the Big Leagues. Ninth inning the Marlins are down 13-2and in comes Ross to pitchthe ninth and save a reliever out of the bullpen. Ross threw 19 pitches 12 of which were strikes to retire the side. The crowd chanting the usual “Cody, Cody, Cody, Ross gave up one hit to Werth and got Ryan Howard, Ibanez and Feliz  to fly out. A sizzling 84 mile per hour fastball a change up and slider was in Ross’ arsenal. His form was flawless as it was in high school when Ross pitched a perfect game for Carlsbad High. Ross is Marlins only closer as of late to retire the 9th inning with no runs scored. You could tell Cody was having fun on the mound.  The Marlins definitely needed a humorous moment to ease the pain of the last six games. There is some debate how fast Ross pitched in High School, I will get back to you on that. by the way, I think Ross has the best batting average of any pitcher in baseball with a .258!

Marlins travel to New York to face the Mets tomorrow night in their new stadium. Marlins still lead the NLE by 1 1/2 games over the Phillies. rosspitch1

Ross’ 5 rbi day for Blackbird

April 19th, 2009 — article by

Blackbird singin in the dead of night.

Take these broken wings and learn to fly,

You were only waiting for this moment to arise. Blackbird fly.

Robin tagged it, sang it at Cody’s birthday party last December and we all tried to remember the lyrics on the golf course the next day.  It seems so fitting to nickname  the Marlins  “Blackbird”. This team plays as one. Everybody contributes to winning. These underdogs have learned to fly. Blackbird fly!

It was Cody’s best game to date hitting  an RBI single, a homer and a  3 RBI double in the ninth inning to pull the Marlins ahead 7-4 against the Nat’s  to win the game and sweep the series. Cody goes 3-4 today with a walk. single, double, and home run.  Ross’ average is up to .256, not bad considering his average last week was below .100.  Marlins are now 11-1. The Marlins bullpen is still lights out giving up 0 runs in like 26 innings. Go figure, and I was worried at the start of the season. That’s how much I know. Glad to be wrong. Marlins are on the streak to say the least.

Into the night of the big Blackbird…………..Beatles #1     Marlins #1
