Marlins acquire Nick Johnson before the deadline

July 31st, 2009 — article by

Great move by the Marlins to pick a top notch first baseman and a .300 hitter. Thismoves Cantu back to third and Bonifacio into the Amezega role. The Marlins nailed me wrong and I am glad. This is a great addition to the Marlins offense and defense. The bad news is Brett Carrol was sent down along with Gaby Sanchez. I’m sure BC will be back up when the Marlins don’t need 13 pitcher on the roster.

The Marlins also won the opener with the Cubs 5-2. Voldstad looked good and the pen was flawless. Onward Ho to the next two games. Oh Yea Cody had another web gem running down a fly ball to the wall to save extra basses. Go Marlins!!!

Ross hits one out

July 30th, 2009 — article by

Cody hits his first homerun since the allstar break but it wasn’t enough to sweep the Braves. Marlins had their chance in the bottom of the ninth with runners on first and second with one out but Brett Carrol got jammed and hits into a double play to go extra innings. McCain hits a three run homer to win one out of three against the Marlins 6-3. The Marlins are 2 games back in the wild card race and still 6 back of the Phillies.

Cody now sits at 15 homers for the year and 27 doubles. With the Sox coming to town the Marlins are  gonna need all the offense they can muster. 24 hours before the trade deadline and no trades yet…….I still say the Marlins will hold their hand and go with what they got.

Ross trade rumors

July 29th, 2009 — article by

Withtwo days left before the trade deadline, Ross’ name has come up with several different clubs. The Red Sox want him for a 4thoutfielder. That would suck. Cody would never play with the outfield they have now. The Yankees want him. That would be worse with all the fiasco crap that happens in New York. The Tigers want him back. I actually think Ross might like going back to Detroit where he started. Whatta ya think Cody? If you did get traded where would you like to go?

I guess my last post was wrong as usual when I speculate. I guess Cody is the Marlins only real bait for some pitching and a bat. Seems nobody wants Hermida  Maybin can be called  up to play center field. They could try and get a third baseman with a bat and put Boni in the utility spot. Alot of people like that idea but I don’t. Boni has been coming along at third base. The next 48 hours will tell the story. I’m sticking with no trades and no upgrades………

Its the little things

July 28th, 2009 — article by

Ross drew a walk in the bottom of the 9th inning to help the Marlins win the game against the Braves. Next up is Ross Gload to hit his first walk off pinch hit home run. Its the little things that help a team win and Ross was in the mix again. Marlins are now 2 games back in the wildcard race and 6 games back of the Phillies in the NLE. With 3 days left in the trade deadline I feel the Marlins will not make a move. Lindstrom and Sanchez are due back in the next couple of weeks. The Marlins again drag us into a race that I think we cannot compete. I love you guys but Fredi is the wrong guy to manage a marginal team to a playoff position. He is simply too basic. Sorry Fredi and the Marlins, the other teams involved in the wildcard race will out manage Fredi unless he gets aggressive and gets rid of Pinto. Again the front office will not pick up anyone at this point in the season because they will not give up Stanton or any other prospects in the Minors. They are gearing up for 2012 with the new stadium. Too bad. We all should have expected this as the Marlins have their own agenda and this year ain’t it.

Marlins sweep the Padres

July 22nd, 2009 — article by

They were not pretty games but the Marlins won 3-2, 3-2,  5-0. Now tied for second place with the Braves and six game back behind the Phillies its time to get going and every game is gonna count. With the Marlins in a 7 team run for the wild card spot in the national division things are going to come down to the wire. It was a poor display of hitting for the Marlins against the last place Padres.  The pitching has been outstanding for the fish but the bats have been absent for a while.  With the trade deadline coming up, I don’t see thee Marlins making any big moves. Gaby Sanches was brought up and Andrew Miller was sent down to get his act together. I would have figured Fredi would have at least given Sanches a pinch bat by now. NOT.  You would have thought that some base stealing would have taken place against the Padres. NOT. Fredi is a very conservative manager and it shows. IF this team is gonna be contenders the batters have to find their bats!!!
