Marlins hurtin for certain

August 31st, 2009 — article by

After winning last nights game and Ross having a 2 rbi single, things were looking up for the Marlins kicking off a 4 game series with the Braves and JJ starting the first game. JJ was brilliant for the first 6 innings throwing a no hitter. The Marlins led at this time 1-0 and then Johnson hit the wall. I mean hit the wall. He gave up 3 runs and couldn’t get that last out in the 7th inning. Things got worse from there and the Marlins lost 5-2. Enough said. Marlins couldn’t hit with runners on base and they got beat by a better team tonight. Your running out of games fellas. Vandenhurk got called up and will pitch on Wed. Marlins face Hudson who is comming off Tommy John surgury and hasn’t pitched in over a year……Maybe he’s not on his game. Lets hope so. Marlins need some help. Oh yea and Brad Penny decided to go with the Giants. His choice.

Three losses in a row

Things did not go well for the Marlins tonight. Nolasco went 5 1/3 innings pitching a good game. Things got worse from there.  Ayala called up from AAA gave up 3 runs in the 8th. The Padres beat the Marlins 7-4. Gee I wonder if the Marlins will still go after Penny?

Calling all Pitchers

The Marlins starting pitching has deteriorated to two starters that can pitch. JJ and Nolasco are the only two standing pitchers that can pitch without tearing up the bullpen. Two losses in a row for the Marlins. Anibal Sanchez lasted 4 innings last night and Chris Volstad lasted two innings tonight against the Padres. Front office has already stated that the Marlins will go as far as the starting pitching will take them. Might as well give it up now and save the embarrassment of the rest of the season. Volstad got sent down after to nights fiasco. The Marlins will have to bring up another arm for the rest of the series with the Padres. The Marlins pride themselves of having great pitching. They have had very bad luck in that area. The Marlins have lost Badenhop, Proctor, West, Donelly and Tucker. Spend some money fellas, you can’t always depend on young up and coming pitchers. If the Marlins really wanted to make a run at it they would have picked up some pitching. They say things are tight out there, but pitching was available. Martinez, Smoltz and Penny come to mind. The Marlins just won’t spend any money and they get what they deserve. Miller was just a bad trade. West was brought up too early. Sanchez has always been a gamble since 2006. Volstad was also brought up too soon. That being said, there has been some bad luck with injuries. On a good note Lindstrom has been pitching well as of late. I still wonder why they did not sign Rhodes for another year. He was cheap at 2 mill a year. Way better than Meyer or Pinto. Don’t get me started on Pinto. You just never know what your gonna get with Pinto……

Cody goes 2-4 tonight with a double and an rbi single bringing his rbi’s to 70 for the year and 31 doubles, second on the team behind Hanley. Ross is having a very solid year in the field and at the plate. Cody’s numbers are going to be too expensive next year for the Marlins. I guess we should start a poll as to who Cody will play for…I should also add that Cody should be considered for a gold glove. Being a low market team I doubt that will happen but you never know…..

Sorry folks I been gone workin

Marlins are working against the Mets. 2-0 in the series trying to catch the Phillies and the Rockies. Both are not cooperation very well. Everyone keeps winning.  I am watching ESPN for some damn reason and they are predicting the Braves over the Marlins and the Giants over the Braves. Thanks fellas. Back to baseball!!! JJ is now 7-0 against the Mets and 13-3 for the year. Cody Ross had a 2 rbi triple his first of the year.

Michelle your guess is good at 24 hr for Ross. adorporto that throw  should be in the Marlins archive videos at their site.

It was worth the wait!

Marlins up 5-3 in the top of the ninth and what? Rain!!!!!  2 1/2 hours later they pick the game back up. Two outs bottom of the ninth and Adam Larouch hits a ball to the wall in right field, Ross grabs it out of the puddle and nails a strike to second base and throws out LaRoche. Game over Marlins win the first game against Atlanta 5-3. Anibal Sanchez on his first start off the DL since June  goes 6 innings with no hits. Great game Marlins! I gotta go to bed. 4 am comes early!!!
