Wow! Marlins win in the bottom of the 9th

September 23rd, 2009 — article by

What a game. The Phillies take an early lead 2-0 in the second inning. Marlins come back and take the lead, Phillies take the lead back. Cody Ross hits his 24th home run of the year in the fifth. Ryan Howard hits a two run homer to take back the lead. The ump is making bad calls. Baker gets thrown out of the game after a bad call at the plate. Fredi gets tossed after Baker gets tossed. Its the maddest I have seen Fredi this season. Bottom of the ninth with two outs and low and behold Brett Carroll at the plate swings at two breaking balls. The count 0-2 with runners on second and third Carroll gets a walk off hit to center field. Marlins win 7-6. Thats why we watch baseball folks. The odds of the Marlins winning down 6-4 in the 8th against the Phillies are slim. Cody Ross hit in the 7th run with a single to left field. I had to put that in. Brett Carroll has been moved around for two years because of injuries and lack of pitchers sent him down earlier this year. Maybin got called up and immediately started in center field. Carroll sat the bench. Wrong! As I have said before Maybin should have platooned. Learn the corners dude!  He was due to win a game for the Marlins and Fredi should take note. Way to go Brett Carroll. Way to go Cody Ross who had 2 rbi’s for the night and brings his total to 90 rbi’s and 24 home runs. Michelle I think you are the winner at this point. 10 games to go girl….

Marlins split with the Phillies

September 22nd, 2009 — article by

The first game was hard to watch as JJ pitched a pretty good game but lost in a Phillies romp. The second game was much better as Anibal Sanchez pitched 8 scoreless innings. The Marlins won 3-0 in the second game and Cody Ross hit a home run to bring his career high total to 23. Uggla also hit a home run bringing his total to 30. Three years in a row Uggla has hit that mark. His name is Dan Uggla and he will probably not be a Marlin next year. Ross has been in a slump as of late but his numbers for the year are stellar.

With that being said lets look into who will not be a Marlin next year. Uggla, Cantu, Ross, N. Johnson, Gload, Hermida and numerous pitchers which I will talk about later. If you add up the salaries that these players will get next year it probably comes to about 10 million on the up side. Pay it Loria. If you get rid of these players your gonna lose your fan base. All the players mentioned above ARE the Marlins. Don’t leave Hanley out there all by himself, he might revolt. Your fans will revolt for sure. You better start building now to hold down a fan base and some players that the fans have come to love. Maybin will not be ready next year to take over center field. If you move Coghlan to second base, who will you play in left field? It’s still a question mark as who will play first base. Gaby Sanches has not shown much. Who knows what you have in mind for Bonifacio or Amezega but they  both will be competing for the utility spot.  These are just some thoughts from a fan that has watched the Marlins do more than they should have in the season. You might have a magical bunch if you get your pitching together.

Pitching, good subject! Are you gonna keep JJ who will get a substantial raise next year along with Anibal Sanchez and Ricky Nolasco. Add another 10 mill for those three. Just guessing at this point. So your payroll goes up to 50 mill. Keep em all Loria. Trade Miller, that will save you 2.2 mill right there. You should have kept Rhodes but you went with Dan Meyer who should be gone. ITs funny how the Marlins strive to recruit Pitchers but have none that can deliver. That was harsh, Lord I apologize. Keep VandenHurk and Voldstad. Just some two bit shots from a fan that doesn’t know shit………

Marlins split with the Reds 2-2

September 20th, 2009 — article by

The Reds won today in a 8-1 romp against the Marlins. Time is running out for the fish as the season heats up in the wild card and pennant race. Now 8 games back in the NLE and 5 games back in the wild card its do or die with the Phillie’s coming to Fla. The bats were dead today as the score indicated. It was just a screwed up day as they could not hit Kip Wells. Kip Wells? Sounds like a golfer but he ate the fish up today. Cody was 1-3 today with a single. Ross also made two more outstanding catches in centerfield. Gold glove Cody! We need to have some shirts made up. I understand why they are playing Maybin in centerfield but I don’t agree with it. Put the guy in right field for goodness sakes. The Marlins did not go after pitching which is what they needed to make a push for the playoffs. Nick Johnson was all they would spring for which has been pretty iffy! Is that a word? YOu might as well put the rookie in right field and see how he does there if your not going to play Carroll…..I feel like Tommy getting my buttons pushed. Why would you play Maybin in centerfield in a play off race? IF your gonna play him, you might as well put him in right field and get his feet wet! I would much rather have seen Carroll play right field with Maybin getting spot starts.   Pray for the fish they are gonna need it. And by the way, who is the fricking bunting coach for the Marlins. Maybins attempt to bunt at the plate was little league along with Bonifacio the other night. What a joke. I hate to get on the coaches but you guys really dropped the ball on teaching your players to bunt.  Didn’t all baseball players learn not to stab at the #@#$%$^%&^%$ball when your trying to bunt? Basic, very fricking basic with two guys with speed that can get a base hit with the bunt. and we lost two games because of it……..Pray for the Marlins if you believe in a baseball god they need it!!!

Sorry Reds, Marlins come back in the 9th

September 18th, 2009 — article by

Sorry I missed a week but I’m back. Ross went thru an 11 game hit streak that ended the first game agains the Reds. Marlins lost that game 3-2. It looked that way again tonight untill the bats came alive in the ninth inning. Reds up 1-0 in the top of the ninth Coghlen starts it off and it ends with Baker driving in the winning run. Ross was 1-4 tonight.

Marlins are still fighting to stay in the battle for post season. Rockies gotta lose, Phillies gotta lose, Giants gotta lose, and the Marlins gotta win. That pretty much sums it up. D-backs just took the lead against the Rockies in the 8th by 2 runs. Giants just took the lead against the Dodgers 6-4. Baseball never dies so I will inform tomorrow. By the way Cody is having a stellar year. His manager thinks there is a big raise in Cody’s future. More to come.

Here we go again

Nice hit Cody in the bottom of the ninth, next thing you know your on second base with Ross Gload on first with no outs. Up comes Bonifacio to lay down a bunt and move the runners over with no outs. Helms was on deck and got replaced by Boni. Boni comes to the plate and tries to bunt with the ball in the dirt. He does it again and then Fredi gives him the hit sign. He can’t even get a stance in the box. Did you notice this at second base? Well he strikes out for a worthless at bat. Bad luck with Coghlan hitting into a double play. End of game. My question is to whoever saw this game. Would you have batted Helms that has been on fire lately or would you have Boni bunt with a horrible record? I would have batted a pitcher that bunts all the time, or let Helms bunt or hit away. Needless to say the Marlins lose 5-3 to the Nats……

I also bet Ross would have caught that ball in centerfield that Maybin missed and gave away two runs to help lose the game. I thought Ross was our centerfielder? You have a guy that is playing all out ball, a gold glove contender and you bring in a rookie to miss several balls that Ross would have caught. Balony. Cody you have been screwed again!!!
