Cody gets in the groove

July 22nd, 2006 — article by

After goin’ hitless for the last 19 bats (ouch), Ross gets hot against the Nationals with a single home run to win the game 1-0. And last night against the Pirates, Cody hits a 415′ two run shot in left field. Cody gets 2 RBI’s and a single.  So in the last 3 games Ross is 4-7. We like that average. Stay tuned with the Marlins 1, Pirates 1, game 3 tonight.

Marlins take a 2-1 lead in the series with the Pirates. Cody draws two walks, a run, and a sacrifice fly to help beat Pittsburg 5-0. Final game of the series tomorrow. Rumor has it Cody starts in left field. Stay tuned… Well, that was wrong, I’m gonna shoot my inside guy.

Cody starts in center field. Bats number 4 for the second game in a row. First at bat Cody lines a double to the wall. Advances to third on a single hit by Willingham. Scores on a hit by Hermida. Second time up Ross hits one deep, but it’s caught. Cody goes 1-4 with a run. Marlins win the game 5-4 in the ninth inning, taking the series away from the Pirates 3-1. Marlins end thier homestand 7-4. Off to Atlanta to take on the Braves. They’re gonna have to score some runs in Atlanta.

Regarding the game against the Pirates, I found this on Newsvine.com:

Cody Ross hit a two-run homer in the first for the Marlins. Ross was batting clean up for only the third time this season and he homered for the second time in those games.

Ross hit a 3-2 pitch from Maholm over the wall in left-center in the first inning. His sixth home run of the season scored Dan Uggla, who reached on a one-out single.

“I\’m comfortable in any spot in the lineup, as long as I\’m playing,” Ross said. “It was a big hit but the way Scott was pitching, we only needed one run.”
