It was a beautiful spring

April 2nd, 2012 — article by

It always seems I jinx Cody when he is doing well. Now that spring training is over lets celebrate! Bobby Valentine is off the hook for making any important decisions about Cody Ross and Carl Crawford as the season opens. I think Cody has nailed down left field until Crawford gets back from wrist surgery. Cody has had the best spring training in his career and his swing is sweet. Sweeny on the other hand has struggled at the plate. It looks like a no brainer to move Ross to right field when Crawford gets back. Only time will tell as this plays out. Lets not forget D. Mcdonald who has been on fire during spring training batting .476 or something crazy like that. Where you gonna put him. He is outplaying Elsberry at this point.

Back to the original plan of platooning Ross against left handers and Sweeny batting against right handed pitching.  Uh! Not… The last time a team tried to pigeon hole Ross into hitting better against lefties fell apart from the start. He did it again this spring hitting righties better than lefties. Don’t ever pigeon hole Ross. He is one of the best clutch hitters in the game if you subtract 2011. Everyone has a bad year and he has proven his worth in spring training this year. Valentine is gonna have to rotate these five outfielders. That can be a good thing as long as you catch em when they are on a roll! Gonna be an exciting year for the Redsox!
