Ross makin some Noise

June 10th, 2008 — article by

Well Ross finally got his position after fighting all the way.  It didn’t come easy for the slugger but after hitting 11 home runs, 6 doubles and stealing 4 basses (second only to Hanley) Fredi could not ignore Ross any longer. In the three seasons Cody has played for the Marlins he has over 500 at bats. He is hitting .289 and has hit 34 homeruns. That is one full season of baseball for most starters. Some stats that you might not know about. Ross is the only player on the team with 0 errors. He is tied with Hermida with most assists with 3. Hermida has played alot more games. Another record that I could not find was the fact that Ross got thrown out of the game against the Reds. I cannot recall any Marlins players to get thrown out of a game. It was over a pitch that was high and inside. Ump called a strike and Cody went ballistic. Your outa here. Oops. Thats how hard Cody is playing baseball. If it makes you feel any better Cody, it was a ball.

On a personal note, we went to the blues festival in Ruidoso this last weekend. We’re sippin beer enjoying the blues and Rena decides to go have a smoke in the truck and check on the game. ITs now the 6th inning and the game is tied 4-4. We decide that the main act ain’t that good so we go back to the truck to listen to the game on XM. We drive back to the room and its the 7th inning. We’re walkin back to the room and we know we can buy the game on MLB in the room. I say, I’m not paying 6.95 to watch two innings. Rena says were on vacation. We buy the game just in time to see Ross hit an rbi single to take the lead. The rest is history with Ross hitting a two run walk off homerun with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Best 7 bucks we ever spent. As Kenzie gave us the sign that says WE INTERUPT THIS FAMILY TO BRING YOU THE BASEBALL SEASON. Oh so true. Go Ross, go Marlins after beating the Phillies in the first game of the series 5-4. Ross had a pinch hit double, Jones went 0-4 starting in centerfield. Marlins are 3 games back behind the Phillies.

Dave, thanks for compiling a season’s worth of stats and getting some of the more obscure ones. Good info, great post.
