That title shoud read “Marlins spoil the Mets”. It was the least we could do after a bad season hampered by injuries and bad pitching all season long. Glavin was on the mound for the Mets and only lasted 2 1/3 innings as the Marlins pounded out 7 runs in the first inning. Yea now the good part. Ross hits an opposite field double to score two runs, slides into third on a cut off from Glavin, Glavin throws to third and has a bad throw into the outfield and Cody scores. By the end of the first half of the inning which has taken 30 minutes, the Marlins are up 7-0. Ross ends up on the day going 2-5 with a double, single, two RBI’s and a run. He also got alot of action in left field. Didn’t miss a beat in the sun. Cody ends the season with a career high .335 batting average with 173 at bats. His OBP wha .411. Catch all the stats on the Marlins board. That leads the team by the way. Play him Fredi. OK enough of that.

 Seems like all the announcers liked Cody this year. He was interviewed by Mike after the game again. Mike commented how he loved that smile. Signature Cody. With his sweet talking voice and positive attitude why would they not want him on camera. Cody had a frustrating year with his hamstring problems but came back the second half to put up some strong numbers. The announcers were always asking Fredi about Ross. “So is he in line for centerfield? Well as long as he is hitting was Fredi’s response. Beinfast got asked the same question twice in the last week. His second responce was better than his first. I think Larry got flack over that first response from the e-mail tuesday game when he was asked about Cody starting centerfield. His response was come to spring training. Yea right…….The second time was more positive about Ross’s envolvement with the mix. I can’t remember what he said, but it was more positive. (that is why I am not a sports writer). De Aza did have a good week at the plate getting out of his slump. No I do not have his numbers for the last week.

I think the most positive thing for the Marlins this year was the bullpen. Mostly new faces that performed very well. This last game summed that up with Willis out of control and the bullpen comming into the game and not giving up a run to hold the game in check. Kudos to Kensing coming back with a succesfull Tommy John surgury, Tank having early season control problems and being sent down comming back and pitching his butt off. Pinto keeping us on our seats as to how he would pitch today. Lindstrom who threw his ass off, Miller who came out of nowhere and did his job. Owens being sent down twice and comming back doing an excellent job. And then there is Clark Kent, I mean Kevin Gregg. He was not even considered in the closer spot untill the Marlins had no one else to close thanks to the demize of Julio and Benitez. Marlins: leave Gregg as the closer. Period. He will only get better. I am sure that they will listen to me. I told them last year that Ross should be the everyday centerfielder. Ha ha ha ha.

As all Marlins fans know, Fish needs to go for starting pitching. This season was horrible with our starting pitchers. This should be the first thing on the agenda for the Marlins.  That is hard to find unless you have money to spend. Marlins do not. Still no stadium deal. No long term contracts for players. The only thing we have to look forward to in the off season is trade deals with possibly Willis, Olivo, Boone, Amezega, Lindstrom, Benitez, Kim,  and whoever doesn’t have a contract. I am probably not the right person to be writing this as to not being sure as to who has what.  I do think next year the players that will come back are Ross, Willingham, Jacobs, Hermida, De Aza, Ramirez, Uggla, Olsen, Nalasco, Sanchez, and Johnson who will be out next year with TJ surgury. I can’t believe I sucked myself into this conversation without the facts. Sory. I think Traynor will be back also as I scratch my head.

Well this is a Cody Ross site anyway, so back to Cody. In the off season Cody has stated that he will try to work on his hamstring to make it ready for next year. Good move Cody. Your patience at the plate has improved 100% and it shows in your averages. You did an excellent job coming off the bench to pinch hit and an even better job starting when you were called upon. Your greatness is just a matter of time and opportunity. We are very proud of you and wish you all the best of luck for 2008. We all back you, believe in you, and thank you for giving 110% for your fans. Without you, the summer would really be a drag. Now I am going to go into my depression mode of no baseball for six months.
